Background on project:
An eighteen-story student residence located in Chicago's
south loop area. The 702,000 sq. ft. student dormitory
(the nation's largest mulit-university student residence
once completed) will house 1,700 students. The dormitory
project is a joint venture between three of Chicago's
prominent institutions of higher learning: Columbia
College, DePaul University and Roosevelt University.
The three colleges created the Educational Advancement
Fund, a not-for-profit-corporation to develop and
maintain the building.
Located on the southeast corner of Congress Parkway
and State Street, this residential structure will have
28,000 sq. ft. of prime retail space occupying the first
floor; 30,000 sq. ft. of student amenities, including
lounges, offices, media and game rooms, laundry, and
conference rooms on the second floor, residences, great
room and a 20,000 sq. ft. park with trees, planters
and benches will occupy the majority of the third level.
Floors four through eighteen will be two-student, two-bedroom
units with a shared bath on the north side of the building
and four-student, four-bedroom apartments on the south.
